The 7-Touch Wake-Up Call

A Simple System for Re-Engaging "Dead" Leads in 14 Days or Less...Without Being Pushy or Desperate

Have you ever had a “good” lead go cold?

Whether they’re ghosting your emails, ignoring your calls, or vanishing completely, your leads aren’t avoiding you because they hate you…

…they’ve just forgotten why they were interested in the first place.

But you can bring them back.

The fix?

The 7-Touch Wake-Up Call.

This strategy uses seven quick, engaging touchpoints to re-engage leads without sounding pushy or desperate.

Here’s the playbook:

Step 1: The “Still Relevant?” Email (Day 1)

Kick things off with a simple, no-pressure check-in such as…

“Are you still working on [problem]?”

No pitch. No agenda. Just a human moment.

TIP: Keep it under 20 words. The more personal it feels, the more likely it is to get read and replied to.

Step 2: Share a Quick Win (Day 3)

Now you want to earn the right to stay in their inbox by sending a link to a helpful tip, tool, or resource…something they can use in 5 minutes or less.

For example, you could send a short email like:

“Thought this might help with [problem]…” or “I saw this and thought of you because it reminded me of our conversation about [their specific issue/challenge]…”

Don’t link to your offer. Don’t mention your product or service. Just send them something valuable and see if they reply. Once they do, then you can restart the sales conversation.

Step 3: The Humorous Check-In (Day 5)

Most follow-ups sound robotic (“Just circling back…”), generic (“Just popping this to the top of your inbox…”), or outright passive-aggressive and desperate (“I’m surprised I haven’t heard from you yet…”)

Don’t do that! It doesn’t work and it makes you look desperate.

Instead, send something that will make them smile. One of my favorites is…

“Everything ok? You didn’t get eaten by wolves, did you? 🙂

This breaks the pattern and reminds them there’s a real person behind the email. And if you get a laugh, you’ll get a reply, and that’s when you can get down to business.

Step 4: Send a Personal Video or Voice Message (Day 7)

No one does this, which is why it always stands out.

Pull out your phone and record a 20 - 30 second selfie video saying something like,

“Hey [Name], saw your name come across my list and wanted to check in. If you’re still dealing with [problem], I’ve got a few ideas.”

SIDE NOTE: This strategy is even more effective if you have their mobile number and can send it as a text/SMS message.

Step 5: The Content Hook (Day 9)

Now that you’re back in their orbit, you want to keep the value coming. Share a relevant blog, podcast, or insight, but make it personal. Include a note like…

“Saw this and thought of you. Still tackling [problem]?”

TIP: Tie the content to a past conversation or known pain point.

Step 6: The Soft Offer (Day 11)

Invite them to a no-pressure event: webinar, Q&A, private training, etc., by saying something like…

“We’re doing a free training on [Interesting Topic] for our top clients on [Date]. Want me to save you a seat?”

IMPORTANT: Make it feel like an exclusive gift, not a pitch. If it’s something you’re already doing for customers/clients, that’s even better.

Step 7: The Final Nudge (Day 14)

At this point, it’s time to be a little more direct. We like to keep it short and sweet…something like:

“If you’re still interested in solving [problem], let’s get this done starting this week. What do you say?”

By touch #7, most leads either engage, or disqualify themselves (which is still a win).

And if they don’t engage and they don’t disqualify themselves, this method still leaves the door open for future follow-up attempts because it’s helpful throughout and never pushy or desperate.

Action Step: Find a list of 50 - 100 “dead” leads and send this 7-touch sequence starting next week. If it works (and it will), automate the 7-Touch Wake-Up Call in your CRM or marketing automation tool of choice.
